Melanie Banville's run to the Olympics just became a little bit easier with the recent presentation of a cheque for over $5000 to Gymnastics Canada. The funds will be placed in a trust account in Melanie's name, and will be used to defray the costs of her training.

"Craig Keen Despatie and Markell LLP is proud to help support Melanie", said Mike Despatie. "Our firm and staff has a long history of supporting the community and we thought it appropriate to recognize not only Melanie's committment to excellence but also the committment of her family to her dream."

Melanie is considered to be one of the top women gymnasts in Canada, and has a tough schedule of meets, trials and practice sessions in order to get ready for the summer Olympics in Athens Greece.

"I am very thankful for the generous support of Cornwall's business community," said Melanie Banville. "I will do my best to represent both Cornwall and Canada wherever I compete".

Bob Craig Elected to Fellowship

Bob Craig is joined at the Induction Ceremony by his wife, Aline.

Bob Craig has been elected as a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario.

Election to Fellowship, the highest designation that the Institute confers, recognizes outstanding career achievements and leadership contributions to the community and the profession. FCA elections are held triennially.

"It is a great honor to be recognized by my peers and humbling to be included in the 2% of Chartered Accountants elected to fellowship status", said Bob Craig. "I continue to enjoy my career as a Chartered Accountant in public practice and highly recommend the pursuit of the CA designation for a challenging and rewarding career whether it leads them to public practice, business, government or education."

Mr. Craig is active in the community. He currently sits on the Board of Team Cornwall. He is past-president of the S D & G Chartered Accountants Association, an emeritus member and past treasurer of the Shriners Hospital For Children, Canadian Unit and a past and founding president of the Cornwall Big Brothers & Sisters.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario is the governing body of Ontario's over 33,000 Chartered Accountants and CA students. The announcement was made at a presentation ceremony on Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Tom Wallace named Citizen of the Year!

Tom Wallace is a man known to hundreds of people as a tireless volunteer, the type of person who brings more to the other's lives than he himself takes. Now, he is also known as Cornwall's Citizen of the Year.

His formal commitment to the community began when he joined the Rotary Club in 1981. His actions, attitude and accomplishments over the past 22 years have been absolutely outstanding. Working on the board and well as different committees, Tom has played a key role in efforts as diverse as the John Stewart Home, Big Brothers and Sisters, Canadian Red Cross, Cornwall Bingo Centre, CNIB, and Rotary Youth Exchange

His professional contributions to the community are as impressive as his personal contributions. He has worked with countless companies and individuals, dispensing business advice and knowledge for over 35 years in his capacity as a Certified General Accountant with Craig Keen Despatie and Markell Chartered Accountants, LLP. Indeed, his sense of loyalty and commitment is unheard of today, as he joined the firm upon graduation from high school!

Tom is also a stalwart family man. He married his wife Jeannette in 1972, and together they have raised a lovely daughter Sarah, who was born in 1980.

There is no greater praise than that which you receive from your colleagues and peers. Tom Wallace has won the respect and admiration of the organizations and volunteers that he works with every day.
